Tiny Takeover: Outfit 4

Over half way through now and Tiny is getting really into this dressing Mummy lark.
"OH!" he shouts while running down the hall towards my bedroom. "Where's that spotty dress? The one with the spots on?" He flings open the wardrobe with such vigour. "YESSSS! Red and spotty."

He rummages through my shoe box and finds two black ones but they don't match. I ask if they're the shoes for me to wear. "Nooo you silly narna, they're not the same!" and he finds a matching shoe and hands the pair over.

I assume he's done. I've never worn tights or leggings with this dress before. But no, he's in the swing of things now and he looks through my drawer of bottoms. He finally pulls out my galaxy Pamela Mann tights and tells me he likes space so I should wear these. And with that he wanders off, mission complete.

Check back tomorrow to see what he's picked for Day 5!

Tiny Takeover: Outfit 3

I REALLY loved yesterdays outfit. I got some hilarious "Oh my god did you dress in the dark?!" looks from the families who drove past me and little old dears walking around Morrisons but I'm at my most confident when I look a bit ridiculous. My previous outfit was fairly normal and left me feeling awkward and uncomfortable. This one though? My head was high and I didn't have a care in the world.

Jacket: Simply Be
Dress: Modcloth (no longer available)
Leggings: Primark (last year)
Brogues: Everything £5 (no longer available)

Tiny chose not to accessorise this outfit. Let's be honest, it doesn't really need it anyway.
With polka dots, scottie dogs and zombies all up my legs, I'm pretty sure we're covered.

Dogs vs Zombies

I get the impression he was saving the crazy clash of print and colour for this particular day because it was the day of his birthday party. This is what he wanted me to wear while greeting the parents of his nursery friends and holding his birthday cake in front of various cameras. Cheers, kid!

This has been my favourite outfit so far. Never would I ever have matched any of these items up and I think I can safely say I never will ever again... but it was great fun.

My camera battery died a death so I've used my phone for these pictures which is why the quality is rather naff.

Tiny Takeover: Outfit 2

I had a realisation today. As Tiny was picking out a perfectly coordinated dress and pair of leggings, I thought to myself "Wow. This outfit is going to look BORING." It was a nice enough dress and leggings but I actually would have put them together myself. I'm hardly pushing boundaries right now.
Then I looked at the dress and the label still inside and I remembered. I've never worn this dress. It's pretty, it's exactly the sort of thing I'd normally wear but I'd intended to send it back. It has this one feature. Just one small panel down the front of the skirt that I had decided, without more than a moments thought, would draw too much attention to my belly. So I put it away and and shoved it to the back of the wardrobe with no intention of ever finding it again. That is until this morning when a fresh pair of eyes saw it. Innocent young eyes of a boy who doesn't see body shame. He just sees mummy and a pretty flowery dress.

Tiny told me this was the dress I absolutely definitely had to wear today, so with a sigh of reluctance and my squeeziest fat pants (which were removed before lunch of course), I slipped the dress over my head. We picked out a top layer, shoes and accessories and ventured out to get Tinys hair cut, him squeezing my hand all excited and me using my remaining free hand to hold a cardigan closed, self consciously trying to hide my tum (but actually probably making it even more prominent).

We got to the high street, sat down in the barbers and I let go of the cardi, And do you know what happened? NOTHING. People talked about their music. A father and son shared a joke. And I got caught up in the excitement with my son.

So today my outfit isn't outrageous, but it's a breakthrough. Today, I let go. I let someone else pick a dress I never would have worn and nothing bad happened. Tiny has no idea how liberating this challenge is turning out to be. I'm so grateful.

Tiny Takeover: Outfit 1

Hey lovelies! Thank you for all the kind words about this blog challenge. I've had such great feedback and it's the most fun I've had with fashion for a long time.

Just to recap, the purpose of the Tiny Takeover Week is to allow my 3 year old complete control over what I wear, just as I've had final say in what he wears for almost 4 years. So... How did Tiny do? See for yourselves!

First thing he picked out was the dress. He's always been drawn to this one so it wasn't a great surprise. It coordinates pretty well with the hair colour he chose for me too! (More on that later.)

After he chose the dress Tiny found me a pair of leggings. He's loved skeletons ever since we introduced him to Nightmare Before Christmas so these leggings were a no brainer and neither was the necklace! What 3 year old doesn't love Christmas and gingerbread men?

To top it off we have the spangliest rainbow shoes ever (that I own), giving this Fruity Christmassy Halloween outfit a bit of sparkle.

I felt awkwardly brilliant wearing such mismatched items and I am really looking forward to the next outfit!

Remember to check back tomorrow for a look at what Tiny picks out next! x

Tiny Takeover Week

Dear readers, this week is Birthday Week. Within the next 7 days three members of this household get a year older. My eldest mini cupcake will be turning 4 and my husband and I make the leap from thirty year olds to 30-somethings. Eek!

To mark the birthday week I have decided to hand over all styling choices to the child. It's only fair that after almost four years of telling him what clothes to put on, he's allowed a little payback. So for my birthday, date night, his birthday party and of course the school run, Tiny will be telling me exactly what to wear.

Oh yeah. And he's also picked me out a new hair colour. (Ooh look, my first YouTube video!)

So check back every day this week to see my outfits as chosen by my tallest Tiny.
